Subject

Organ Tissue Engineering; cornea; retina; lens; eye disease

Description

Tissue engineering re-emerged in the 1990s as a new concept to overcome the problem of tissue and organ failure. Over the past few decades, there have been tremendous advances in the regeneration of tissues such as bone, heart valves, cartilage, cornea, and retina. In terms of ocular tissue engineering, although there are scientific and strategic incentives to reconstruct ocular tissue, there is also a tremendous need for new therapeutic options in treating various ocular diseases associated with tissue failure. The purpose of this Special Issue is to discuss the application of tissue engineering to ocular tissue including but not limited to the cornea, retina, and lens.
