National Marine Conservation Assessment for Papua New Guinea
Subject
Marine ecology
Description
Papua New Guinea is committed to the establishment of a network of marine protected areas. This report provides a first step analysis of areas of potential high conservation interest in the Papua New Guinea marine environment based on an analysis of existing uses (mining, shipping, fishing, protected areas, other human use), physical and biological characteristics. Conservation planning software was used to produce maps of these areas and various scenarios based on the principles of comprehensiveness, adequacy, representation and resilience.
